I believe it is really important to take photographs as it allows you to capture something in it's essence and most simplest form. Often, there is almost a misconception when looking into the purpose of an image, causing a fairly interesting debate between viewers- which I find the most exciting thing about photography: the open ended-ness and fact you are able to interpret the meaning in your own way, for each different person. Also, taking/making images allows us to have a permanent memory with a particular moment that can be referred back to throughout our lives.

As I stated above, I believe photographic images really capture something in it's essence, which just allows you to admire the simplicity and natural-ness of something. Also, the fact that this image can stick with you for your whole lifetime is really important. Also, there are some things which cannot be communicated via words, and can be done better through an image. With every photo you take, there is a different outcome; different meaning; different purpose and this is really great to communicate and share to others. |
Personally, I believe that anybody could be a good photographer as everybody has their own and different vision which really individualises each person's work. However, technically speaking- a 'good' image must be composed thoughtfully and almost evoke the viewers emotions, leaving the image memorable for them. Although, there are often cases where images aren't as thought out yet turn out amazing.. So I suppose it really depends on the subject as a whole and it's surroundings. |
This is debatable. Once you take an image, the camera has already processed certain things and edited the image to look/fit a certain way.. Then you upload the image, which decreases the value of the image in a sense.. It can be argued that once you've uploaded an image, it is no longer the same as what you initially photographed/visioned. However, it is also true that the closest thing to replicating something is taking an image of it as it is the subject in it's most basic form. |
Photography is more of a freelance subject, I believe. Although photography is commonly done via camera's, there are certain more technical processes which you can do.. Similar to art. I feel anybody can take photographs, however, with art- I feel that you almost have to be good at it to take it up. A common difference would be that art is more technical and hands on, yet photography is more easier and efficient. |
Although by law you are allowed to photograph somebody in a public place without consent, I feel that if the person hasn't given consent to the image being taken, it makes it difficult to defy them and still take the image. Also, in certain situations- I feel you should just respect certain people's privacy and not take images. You wouldn't exactly go into somebody's bedroom whilst they're sleeping with their partner and take images.. I feel it just depends on the situation, however, do believe that consent should be given if anything. |
Personally, I believe the best place to see photographs are in a book, as this always includes images which aren't published online and often just have a better touch to them. Exhibitions are also always a great place to see images that aren't published online. For an easy and efficient way to find photos, the internet is great.. However, mostly has really cliché images of a certain photographer and often shows the most famous images rather than all of somebody's work. |
Personally, I'm really into images with really deep juxtapositions- whether it be in tone, meaning or subject.. I feel my own images come out best with really stark visual contrasts.
I really enjoy street photography as this can always be done without much effort and you are always able to capture something interesting each time. Being on the go and photographing is one of my favourite things to do. I also do enjoy taking photos minimalist photos, with a lot of simplicity yet has really strong meaning/inferences to say about it. |
Sometimes, I don't know when to stop developing my work or how I could refine my images. This then leads to me being stuck for quite a while, thus to wasting my time. Also, there are times when I have really strong ideas of what to do yet don't have the right resources or equipment to go ahead with this. |
